Vaccinations: Are Your Children Ready for School?

August 04, 2014

With the first day back to school approaching quickly, it is important for parents to know which vaccinations schools require for entry/attendance.

  • Required: MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Chicken pox, Polio,DPT (diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine)

Age 11

  • Required: Pertussis booster (TDaP) vaccine
  • Recommended: Meningococcal vaccination ,  HPV vaccine
It is better to schedule vaccination appointments with your child’s doctor sooner rather than later, as physician practices begin to get extremely booked during back-to-school time.

Dr. Martha Perry, adolescent medicine specialist and the medical director of Cone Health Center for Children, spoke on Fox 8 House Calls about the importance of making sure your children are vaccinated before school begins.
