Tips to Help You Stay Active This Winter

December 03, 2014

It's getting darker earlier, temperatures are dropping and there is less sunshine. Yes, winter is definitely here.

Staying physically active during the winter months can be tough. Frankly, who wants to go out when you can curl up in a blanket by the fire while sipping a hot beverage?

Don't worry, we're going to help you remain active and overcome winter barriers with the following tips:

Make a commitment to yourself that you will stay active as part of your healthy lifestyle. Physical fitness should be part of your daily routine all year.

Schedule. Participate in a regular winter friendly activity such as:
      • Joining a weekly walking/jogging group. Search online for a walking/jogging group or start your own.
      • Taking a weekly class at the gym. Classes in aerobics, yoga, Spinning®, Zumba® or toning are available throughout the area. Regular classes are helpful for people who may have only one hour available in the evening.
      • Using DVDs at home. There are plenty of well-done, affordable exercise DVDs available.
      • Training for a spring walk, 5K walk or run, or even a marathon. Knowing you have a competition coming up may be just the motivation you need.
The most important thing is to look at fitness as part of your everyday life.
